Match Summary 4/9/2022

7 Sep

Cambridge Women's 1st. Against Huntly at Huntly Domain.

HT 0 0 FT 0 3 Goals Zoe, Tahlia & Olivia

Huntly unbeaten at home this season & averaging 6 goals per game was not the 1st round battle we were looking for. Ground was in good condition albeit a little heavy under foot with quite a strong wind at times coming across the field.

We started well enough, first 10 minutes we had 12/13 shots going just wide of the target, but also hitting the upright and having a goal disallowed for a dubious offside. That was the story of the first half, we had the majority of possession & territory but couldn't finish. Not all our own way though.

Huntly threatened on a few occasions with a fast counterattack keeping Aimee on her toes in goal, Huntly we're unlucky not to go into the break 1 up. Coaches half time message. "Calm down & take your time" appearing to work, Tahlia hitting the back of the net 2 minutes after the restart. The goal was a pressure release for us & we started to settle into our normal pattern.

Huntly still threatened with the odd counterattack, Aimee pulling off more great 1 v 1 saves keeping Huntly scoreless. Tahlia scored our 2nd on the hour & Olivia stepping up from our development team scored the 3rd 4 minutes from time.

Shout outs to our keeper Aimee and Captain Emma Cross for her great shift in midfield today. POD. Zoe Fon, excellent work on the right wing & scoring the 2nd goal securing our win. Thanks to our sponsors....Hill homes.... Next week round 2 of the cup.

Cambridge Womens 2nds vs Unicol Knockout Cup round 1 4th September

HT 2-2 FT 7-3 GOAL SCORERS, Emma O 1, Lorena 1, Sophee 1, Kym 1, Leydi 3

A windy but beautiful day to get out on the green Coming up against Unicol we knew we needed to be on our A game.

We started strong with some great passing and a through ball to Emma who placed it neatly into the back of net

This woke Unicol up a bit and they managed to get two back. We kept pushing and our feisty winger Lorena ran near the length of the field and was rewarded with a great goal from across the box The game ramped up in physicality with a lot of close calls by both sides Full time whistle blew and we prepped to go into overtime

A good talk with the team re set out spirit and (finally) Kym managed to pop one over the keeper from the edge of the box

Unfortunately a spur of energy and fresh legs from the oppositions saw Unicol land one in the net. We kept pushing and managed to keep the play down the other end of the field, some fantastic team work and passing ended in an absolute pearler of a goal from Sophee from outside of the box and slipped by the Unicol goalie

This gave us a bit of momentum with some great runs up front saw Leydi land two Going into the last half of overtime Unicol got ahead of our defence and a one on one went their way Not to worry, we kept pushing with great work from the middle and wings we got one last corner which Leydi received and managed to slide past the line It was a true team effort with special mentions to Paris and Sophee POD to our brilliant Anna for her efforts every week with the food and everything thing else

Next game 2nd round cup
